Dental practice fitout

“We knew we couldn’t do it by ourselves. We were definitely looking for a fitout company and we did investigate a few different dental fitout companies.  We liked that they were a family run business  and we just felt like they were the right dental fitout company for us.”

Project Background

Before Keppel Dental purchased the building, the former Mater Hospital had sat unused for years. The space was old, dark, and hard to imagine as a welcoming dental practice. At the same time, the Yeppoon community faced high demand for dental services, with limited local options to accommodate patient needs.

Having already sought OPTIMA’s advice in earlier expansion discussions, Luke and Lyndsey reconnected when the hospital purchase became possible. From the outset, they needed a partner capable of delivering a large-scale dental practice fitout in an isolated regional location.

Solution: From hospital to turnkey dental practice fitout

This project demanded more than design expertise. It required the systems, resources and on-the-ground coordination to deliver a complex, high-capacity dental fitout in an isolated regional location. The design centred on creating a large reception with a dedicated payments area to maintain privacy and patient flow, expansive hallways for the easy movement of staff, patients and equipment, and a generous waiting area that can comfortably accommodate peak patient volumes. The clinical spaces include 10 fully equipped surgeries, a GA room and a recovery room, providing flexibility for a wide range of procedures. Oversized sterilisation and laboratory areas support high clinical throughput, while a large staff lounge ensures the team has a space that supports wellbeing and retention.

Delivering this scale of dental practice fitout in a regional area required an expert delivery strategy. The project involved creatively reusing the existing hospital infrastructure while upgrading it to meet dental and GA compliance standards. Throughout the process, the client team was closely involved, ensuring the finished practice felt like their own from day one.

Key benefits

Keppel Dental now has the scale, efficiency, and capability to meet community demand for years to come. The dental practice fitout provides:

  • Increased clinical capacity with 10 surgeries, GA, and recovery spaces

  • Optimised flow between front-of-house, clinical, and back-of-house areas

  • Staff and patient comfort through generous, well-lit spaces

  • A revitalised community asset, breathing new life into a long-vacant building

At its core, this project reflects OPTIMA’s ability to deliver complex dental practice fitouts anywhere in Australia, blending design expertise with the systems and resources needed to bring ambitious healthcare projects to life. Keppel Dental now stands as a bright, modern practice that enhances patient experience, supports a growing team and revitalises a long-vacant community asset.
