From inspired vision to brilliant reality.
At OPTIMA, our team of in-house architects don’t just design healthcare buildings; they create spaces to redefine healthcare experiences, journeys, and possibilities.
Understanding your vision
Exceptional design begins with a deep understanding. Of your space, your people, and your purpose. We take the time to ask the right questions, uncover critical details, and listen beyond the surface to fully grasp your vision. Through careful consultation and analysis, we build a comprehensive framework that informs every decision, and sets a strong foundation for success.
Detailed briefing & design workshop
Underpinned by our people-centred philosophy, our in-house design team leads collaborative sessions to reaffirm your vision. We work closely with you to align project objectives, uncover operational needs, and explore design opportunities that support both clinical excellence and patient experience. From exploring material elements to set the mood of your practice, to mapping how patients should interact and move through the space, no detail is left out.
Design development
Our design team produces detailed layouts, architectural drawings, and immersive visualisations that allow you to clearly see and understand the established design direction. Throughout this phase, we manage external consultants and engineers for you.
Town planning and construction approvals
Approval processes are often intricate and highly specific to healthcare environments. Our team takes full control, preparing and submitting applications, liaising with councils and authorities, and adjusting designs to meet regulatory requirements where necessary. We coordinate with certifiers/building surveyors to ensure all regulatory requirements are met to ensure your project can progress smoothly and compliantly toward construction.
Design approval & construction documentation
Once approvals are secured, we finalise all documentation through to IFC (Issue for Construction), ensuring your project is ready for construction. Upon client review and final approval, our Design team hands control of the project to our Construction team, ensuring a smooth transition into the build phase.

What our clients say about us

“We met with Kerryn who was the Design Lead and she was really instrumental in the colours and the layout. As a team, we were able to get exactly what we were after. We wanted something that had wow factor, something that pops, something that patients and parents would be attracted to, and I think we achieved that.”
Dr Ray Te Mo
Supersmile Orthodontist

“The patients are in awe when they first come through the door, often saying that it feels less like a clinic and puts them at ease and relaxes them, reducing that patient anxiety.”
Dr Ricky Freytag
Portrush Family Dental

“I was very impressed with the design that OPTIMA was able to come up with for our building. We had some pretty specific requirements about our building and not only was OPTIMA able to meet those requirements, they were actually able to come up with a very nice and functional design.”
Dr Leanne Tran
Central Dental Frankston

“The OPTIMA team could capture our thoughts and plans for the place, in the best possible way. Effortless. Efficient. Elegant.”
A/Prof Ali Ghahreman
Prime Neurosurgery

“I liked their modern designs, the clean lines of their dental practices, and I just liked that they were different from everyone else.”
Dr Narelle Van Velzen
Plaza Dental Care

“The design is fantastic. It’s so well lit, there’s so much natural light. We had some limitations with the block that we had but they were able to utilise the space and create a space that is functional and comfortable to be in.”

Helpful information
Common questions relating to the Design of healthcare facilities, answered by us.
Who does the architectural designs at OPTIMA?
Our design team is made up of talent sought from tier 1 architecture and construction firms who we have brought to the healthcare industry – a rare and valuable feature of our business that has heightened our design and delivery quality at every step.
What happens in the design workshops?
Our design workshops are collaborative sessions where we refine the project scope, explore layout possibilities, and discuss key elements like product selection and finish selection.
This interactive process ensures that your future space is thoughtfully crafted to meet your exact needs.
Will I see visual representations of my space before construction?
Yes! We create detailed design documentation, 3D renders, and immersive visualisations so you can see how your space will come to life before construction begins. This allows us to fine-tune every detail and ensures you have an incredible sense of the space prior to construction.
How does OPTIMA ensure the design meets both functional and aesthetic needs?
Whether it’s a dental practice new build, health hub, veterinary clinic or medical fitout, our design approach merges form and function. We don’t just create beautiful spaces—we design environments that improve efficiency, patient experience, and practitioner well-being. Every detail is purpose-driven, from spatial layouts to material selections.
What is OPTIMA’s approach to healthcare design?
At OPTIMA, we take a people-first approach to healthcare design. Our process is built around understanding your vision, refining it through collaboration, and meticulously crafting spaces that enhance patient care, improve workflows, and elevate the experience for both practitioners and patients.
Do you offer design as a standalone service?
No. At OPTIMA, design is an integral part of our full-service, end-to-end approach, which includes both design and construction as a cohesive package.
This ensures a seamless experience from concept to completion, minimising risks, costly budget and timing issues often seen with the traditional design and tender method.
